Sling 2 Around the World 2015

The event is now complete, but we had an embedded window on this active page for people to Follow ZU-TWN live, this has since been removed.

We’ve done this a few times now…and we are happy to be able to provide you real-time data of Mike & Patrick’s journey. The guys are flying with IndigoSat’s Indigo Xplorer TS device (See our Portable Products)….this gadget sends thier positional data to us via iridiums satellite network (Global coverage), if they want they can send and recieve text messages via the touch screen keyboard on the unit.

Letter Head

Clever stuff right? This all works via IndigoSat’s “MiTrac” web enabled tracking platform, but this is more fleet orientated and security and data usage monitoring stopped us from being able to display the information to all, with a shared user account…. (Yes we have clever guru’s monitoring server usage stats and all that boring stuff…and this is linked to a per user scenario…and we could not longer share one user login as we did before)

The last trip we threw together a window that simply shows thier position data on a map below. We were asked to add speed to the positions, so we’ve done that, along with adding the text messages they send :)

Simply click on the positions as shown below, an you’ll see the pop-up bubble with more info :

TWN Popip

The airplane factory staff have access to MiTrac, and they are communicating with text messages to ZU-TWN via MiTrac.

Here are some screen shots with thier data from MiTrac:

Bots Air Race Banner

THE MATSIENG FLYING CLUB, based at Rasesa, Botswana, formed and run by a small number of aviator friends started organizing the Botswana International Airshow some five years ago. The last two Botswana International Airshows were presented with great success after the joining of AirTeam under the leadership of Chris Briers. This combined effort was as smooth as a finely tuned Douglas DC3 roaring on a low level pass on a crisp winter morning….

AIRTEAM from Wonderboom Airport hosted the prestigious Race of Champions in Kwazulu Natal, South Africa, for some years, very successfully under the stewardship of Chris Briers. Contemporary challenges have necessitated casting visions further afield. With an international vision about this air race, the MATSIENG FLYING CLUB and AIRTEAM joined up with Botswana Tourism to introduce the BOTSWANA AIR RACE FOR RHINOS to be held on the Makgadikgadi Pans in Central Botswana. Botswana Tourism, through a generous sponsorship, with the support of the Honourable Tshekedi Khama, Minister of Wildlife and Tourism and the Botswana Civil Aviation Authority enabled the organisers to host the BOTSWANA RACE FOR RHINOS in the Botswana skies for the first time.

Botswana being centrally situated and a conservation hub for Southern Africa is just the right place to host this prestigious event and also touching a subject that has become an international concern for everybody that loves nature and aim to preserve the Rhinos for generations to come.

This thrilling event will be hosted at the world renowned, Kubu Island, in the middle of the vast open Makgadigadi Pans, and will be one for the record books.

IndigoSat South Africa will be providing satellite tracking devices for a few of the aircraft which will be taking place in the event. The Spot Gen3 device will be used in these aircraft, live tracking was available in a window on the active page…and since the event is now finished the link has been removed

IndigoSat South Africa will soon integrate the Spot products into MiTrac allowing for enhanced fleet management. The screen above is a share page for the 7x Gen3’s provided by IndigoSat for the event for the purpose of live tracking.

Gen3

SPOT Gen3 gives you a critical, life-saving line of communication when you
travel beyond the boundaries of cell service. The latest generation of awardwinning
SPOT devices, SPOT Gen3 lets family and friends know you’re okay, or
if the worst should happen, sends emergency responders your GPS location
‑ all with the push of a button. Add this rugged, pocket-sized device to your
essential gear and stay connected wherever you roam. Long Live Adventure!

See http://www.airrace.co.bw/ for more information on this amazing event.

How does this all work? Well James and Pierre are flying with IndigoSat’s Indigo Xplorer TS device (See our Portable Products)….this gadget sends thier positional data to us via iridiums satellite network (Global coverage), if they want they can send and recieve text messages via the touch screen keyboard on the unit. Clever stuff right? (Yes we have clever guru’s monitoring server usage stats and all that boring stuff…and this is linked to a per user scenario…and we could not longer share one user login as we did before)
